Keni –
These boots are adorable and I was sure from some of the review that I read that they would be perfect for an upcoming trip that will involve a lot of walking in the woods and possibly in damp rainy conditions. For that they would be perfect. However, I have plantar faciitis in my right foot and the minute i put these shoes on I knew I was in trouble. I ordered a 91/2 W which fit perfectly. The height at the ankle may have rubbed if I had been able to tolerate the boot for long enough but I think that wouldn’t have been a problem in the long run. I tried wearing them with only the foot insert and they didn’t have enough lift to keep my foot from starting to ache. Then I tried my orthotic and changed into a heaver sock and that made them too snug over my instep which hurt. I’m so disappointed but I would not recommend this boot for anyone with PF unless you invest in having a shoe repair person add a lift to them as one other person had done. That might do it but with the cost of these shoes being what they are I didn’t want to take the chance, spend more money on them and still not have them be comfortable. I’ve worn SAS shoes before and have a pair now that I wear without an orthotic and they are the best shoe ever but I just can’t wear them hiking in the wet woods. 🙁 so sad.

I really wanted to lime these but just couldn’t. They were stiff around the ankle and looked clunky. The heel width was too wide also. I wear a 12 N so I have a hard time finding well fitting shoes. SAS usually works but not this time.
Sher –
I give them 4 stars. I love them but they do seem to be narrower than my other medium width SAS shoes., they have stretched some since wearing. I other problem I encounter is that the part where the lacing part is seen to the lower part rubs on my large toe joint and by the end of the day I am glad to take the shoes off. That is just my feet but something to consider the wider shoe might have been better for me. They are a great looking boot.
High A –
The Gretchen is the only shoe I wear now and I can stand and/or walk for hours everyday with no pain in my feet. knees or hips. I have extremely high arches including instep so the laces are very accommodating and comfortable. Gretchens are large enough that I can insert my custom orthotic. These boots are stylish and versatile while perfectly serving my medical needs. I have them in many colors and get lots of complements. The brown ones are really beautiful and compliment my office casual dress every day. Water resistant leather and slip-resistant sole are value adds! I am so grateful that SAS makes Gretchens and can fit my wide small feet of 6 1/2 wide.

I was excited to buy these boots, but the heel was way too wide. My heels slipped around in the boots with every step. I’m not interested in developing blisters. I had to return them immediately. I’ve owned SAS shoes before but never boots.

I’ve worn SAS almost exclusively for more years than I can count. Since the decline of actual retail shoe stores, it’s nice to be able to order online. Admittedly, I don’t usually buy from here because I get a military discount plus free shipping at another well known website. However, I do check in here from time to time and I’m so glad I did. I was able to purchase this Gretchen boot at a steep discount which was definitely a deal even with a fifteen dollar shipping fee. Thankfully, I don’t need to return them. They fit so nicely. I love SAS shoes in general but some fit better than others. I needed a shoe that would keep my toes warmer this winter so I decided to give this one a go. Absolutely love it. I cannot think of one negative thing to say about this little boot. Perfect in every way. Including the playful color combination and the extra pink shoe laces! So happy.

Well I’m a Teacher and on my feet all day on concrete floors so I need a supportive footwear. My feet are narrow so I’ve always had a difficult time finding my size. And if I do find a narrow half size My big toe on my right foot is crunched!! My right foot is larger than my left!! Uhh And on my off time I walk 2 miles daily SAS shoes have helped me loose 30 pounds which My health is important to me. SAS are the Best!!!

Extremely comfortable shoes!
Usual size and width, fit great.
Only complaint would be the style is a bit frumpy. I think a Chelsea boot style would be more versatile.
KSnyder –
This was a very comfy boot. I liked it but didn’t keep it because it was so similar to the boots I already own.

This was my first purchase from Zappos and I’m in heaven. I have very narrow (AAAA) feet and shoes are getting harder to find. I saw these boots, fell in love and ordered them. I got a 9 AAA; the fit is perfect. The boots came with two kinds of laces to change the look a bit. These boots are very cute with jeans as well as being comfortable.

Bought this shoe last fall for winter weather and rain. Now I wear it all the time. It is like walking on a firmly comfortable cloud, holds my ankles and never rubs. I have narrow arthritic feet with very narrow heels and a high arch. Many boots rub over the arch or let my heel slip. Gretchen does not. I am wearing it with everything. Might try it with evening wear. Wish it came in red in my width because I will buy other colors. Looks great despite wearing it in rain and mud. Love it.

I have very narrow feet and normally wear a 9.5 or 10. I ordered these in a 9.5 Narrow and they are so comfortable, it feels like I am wearing slippers. My heel slips a little but since I wear these with heavy socks it isn’t a problem.

not enough arch support for me
Always L –
I was hesitant at first on buying the Gretchen Chukka Boot due to my RA in my feet and ankles, but was excitedly surprised when I tried them on! They are extremely comfortable and provide enough arch support and heel comfort for my aching feet!!! I am a wide in shoes and love the fact that I can buy a stylish shoe for work that does not look like the huge wedge, block shoes we saw in the nursing homes as kids! I love this boto and it helps give me confidence no one is looking at my feet when I walk around my office or out with my family! If you are looking for a comfortable boot that has style, then this is the boot for you!!!! The only con is the price. I would get more and in different colors if they were a less expensive! Other than that, a great shoe!!!!!

I wore these boots for five hours out of the box in 30 degree temperatures and I was continuously on my feet. They were so comfortable and warm with wool socks. I wore socks that were taller than the boot to prevent the boot top from rubbing on my ankle. I have hammer toes and there is ample space for wiggling my toes. The only negative comment I have is the suede is easily scuffed.
Dragonmom –
I have purchased four pairs of boots and shoes in the last month trying to find a comfortable pair for walking and I finally found a winner in these. They are very comfortable and I went on my walk without my custom orthotic with no problem. Very happy to have found a pair of boots,

I love my Gretchen boots and have received so many compliments about them. They were comfortable out of the box and although I’ve worn them nonstop for a month, they still look brand new.
Shorty S –
Great quality and very comfortable

The shoe had no arch support, it was very hard material, and hurt around the ankle. Too bad because it was so cute.

Love the color and fact that these are so cute in my size
Granny B –
I absolutely love my new Gretchen Chukka Boots! They are so comfortable right out of the box, no break-in needed. They came with 2 different laces, one more casual and one more dressy so I get twice the style with one boot. I love the red color and look especially stylish.when I wear my red coat.
LaRev77 –
Great short boot – waterproof and feels better than most sneakers. I wear them year round as everyday and dress boots. This is my 4th pair – 2nd blue ones. I also have the black shade and black leather. They last for years with removable soles.
DP –
Perfect fit, allows room for a pair of heavy winter socks and orthotics.
Can’t yet rate durability

Size and width were on point. I also liked the color. The style was not what I was going for but these are definitely good shoes! I returned because I need to LOVE a pair of shoes that costs $200.
Maggie’s M –
I have had a blue pair of these for a few years and wear them all the time. I decided to gift myself with a second pair, this time in brown. I love how they fit, how versatile they are. I wear orthotics and they easily go into these boots. Chukka boots work for outdoors, rainy weather, casual with jeans or with longer skirts. They are my “go to” choice, even more than my many other pairs of SAS brand shoes.
